Punishment at the expense of reformation

I observe with regret sometimes, how the best of us commit the silliest of errors.

Oftentimes, we tend to carry on with the mindset that retribution is sufficient to make a saint of an erring person; Scold him! Flog her! Lock him up!…when in truth, what we simply do is make a monster of an offender. Chastisement requires a strategy and a psychology, it possesses a soul and an essence. When carried out in isolation of either, we could readily make a rebel of a potential saint.

Reformation is an integral part of correction, without recourse to which we are left with the mundane of physical battles and their verbal versions. The best outcome ever gotten from those mundane is the twin evil of disgrace and shame.

When i write of this and in this manner, it is in no way limited to criminal justice, but roots deeper into correctional systems within the family unit, the corporate universe and of course in people management!

Yes, I said it.
